Kingdom Protista

Protista is an exciting and important Kingdom. However, it tends to be a "caught all" meaning if it's not a fungus, plant or animal we'll put it in the Protists Kingdom

Prompts

Identifying characteristics of the kingdom Protista

Please develop and submit a presentation demonstrating your understanding of Protista. Please include the above prompts in your presentation.

Kingdom Fungi

A diverse group of eukaryotic single-celled or multinucleate organisms that live by decomposing and absorbing the organic material in which they grow, comprising the mushrooms, molds, mildews, smuts, rusts, and yeasts, and classified in the kingdom Fungi

Prompts

Please provide a brief overview of Louis Pasteur

How does fermentation play a role in your life today?

Are Fungi heterotrophs or autotrophs

Discuss decomposers, mutualists, predators, and parasites

Please develop and submit a presentation demonstrating your understanding of Fungi. Please include the above prompts in your presentation

Kingdom Plantae

As we begin to investigate animals and their environment it becomes important to have a basic understanding of Botany. Botany is the scientific study of plants, including their physiology, structure, genetics, ecology, distribution, classification, and economic importance.

The four basic divisions of plants are mosses, ferns, conifers, and flowing plants.

A very general definition of a plant is a living organism of the kind exemplified by trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, ferns, and mosses, typically growing in a permanent site, absorbing water and inorganic substances through its roots, and synthesizing nutrients in its leaves by photosynthesis using the green pigment chlorophyll. (disclaimer: we know that not all plants have roots)

Two types of plants: vascular and non-vascular:

Prompts

Identifying characteristics of plants

What are Bryophytes?

Compare and contrast vascular and non-vascular plants

Discuss the function of the three basic plant parts: leaves, stems, and roots

Explain the difference between xylem and phloem

Please develop and submit a presentation that demonstrates your understand of the Kingdom Plantae. Please include the "prompts" in your presentation.

Kingdom Aminalia

General characteristics of the Kingdom Animalia are as follows: Animals are eukaryotic, multicellular and heterotrophic organisms. They have multiple cells with mitochondria and they depend on other organisms for food. Habitat - Most of the animals inhabit seas, fewer are seen in fresh water and even fewer on land.

There are over 9 million species of animals found on Earth. They range from tiny organisms like water fleas (Daphnia) made up of only a few cells, to the giant blue whale.

The Animal Kingdom contains more than two million known species. To begin our journey into the animal kingdom we'll need to know the seven phyla.  The seven phyla of the  Animal Kingdom: Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda, and Chordata.

A lifetime can be dedicated to any one of these phyla. However, we'll start with a brief overview:

Prompts

Identify the characteristics of the Kingdom Animalia

Discuss the 7 phyla and what makes each unique

Discuss and provide reasoning why most animals live in the ocean

Please develop and submit a presentation that demonstrates your understand of the Kingdom Animalia. Please include the "prompts" in your presentation.
